Last week, the UN published several maps showing the aftermath of Operation Protective Edge. The maps mark damaged buildings with red dots scattered throughout Gaza. But these maps tells only half the story: Hamas used many of these buildings – including houses, hospitals and schools – as sites to launch rockets and carry out other attacks.
In many cases, the IDF struck buildings in order to stop Hamas’ violence. This means that the red dots on the UN’s maps represent more than destruction. They show the many cases in which terrorists attacked Israel from heavily populated areas in Gaza.
In this video you can see how adults in Israel do everything in their power to protect Israeli children from physical harm while also shielding them from the impacts of this war.
Shlomi Kakon, a 3 years old girl wrote:
We planned to celebrate Noa’s birthday on her birthday, which falls on July 23, but the security situation led to the closing of her nursery school and did not allow for us to organize a celebration. This morning, we decided to celebrate before the nursery school closes for the year and all of the kids head out on vacation. To our great dismay, precisely at the moment that Noa had been so anticipating, the moment at which she would blow out the candles and make her wish, the awful sound of the air raid siren rang out. Just as we were in the middle of the countdown, the siren went off and, in the video, you can see the fear and pain in her face. Fortunately, the staff at the nursery helped us to get through this difficult moment with smiles and laughter and for this we are truly grateful to them. We hope for peaceful days ahead.
In December of last year, Reuters reported that then-Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleiman had previously stated (as revealed through Wikileaks) that Hamas receives roughly $25 Million from Iran every month.
That’s $25 Million every single month – or $300 Million annually.
In Canadian currency, that’s enough money to cover the entire yearly budgets of the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian AIDS Society, and the World Wildlife Fund of Canada combined.
That’s a lot of money for an internationally banned terrorist organization. It goes a long way in covering the costs of advanced weaponry imports and the salaries of missile-launching crews.
The people of Gaza deserve leaders that will make productive investments in a prosperous and peaceful future – and not more bombs, bullets, and bunkers.
What could $25 Million per month buy? See the infographic above to find out.
